Exhaust systems - new construction & renovation

ArtKamin supports you as a specialised company in the planning, construction and renovation of flue gas systems. Find out which materials are used, which standards and approvals apply to you and what work is involved.

We are your partner

Refurbishment and professional flue system construction for the following chimney systems:

For heating companies, architects and private individuals.

Exhaust systems: safe discharge of exhaust gases

Material & fire protection requirements

The flue gas system is also a central component of heating systems, stoves and fireplaces in Lucerne and Zug and ensures the safe discharge of flue gases. It must fulfil high material, fire protection and tightness requirements to protect residents.

New construction of an exhaust system

In addition to fire protection, we attach particular importance to minimising noise and increasing energy efficiency. With modern sound insulation systems and insulating materials, we achieve quiet and efficient operation of your fireplace system. Energy calculations are also part of our service.

Precise planning for optimum function

We install the individual components of the flue gas system (connection to the burner or fireplace, shaft guide, roof duct and ceiling outlet). We ensure that all installations comply with the local conditions and the cantonal fire protection regulations of Lucerne and Zug.

Refurbishment

Refurbishment is necessary if the old flue gas system has leaks or corrosion damage, or if the system no longer complies with current regulations. We offer various refurbishment techniques:

PP refurbishment:

We insert a new plastic pipe into the existing flue gas duct. This process is cost-effective and particularly suitable for systems with low flue gas temperatures of up to around 160°C (often for condensing boilers or oil/gas heating systems). It improves the tightness and corrosion resistance of the existing system.

LAS system (air/exhaust system):

A concentric system that discharges flue gas and supplies combustion air at the same time. Ideal for gas and oil condensing boilers, as it enables operation independent of the ambient air and offers maximum efficiency.

Brands and suppliers

Our main supplier of plastic and LAS systems is Almeva AG in Bischofszell - we use their branded product EKA. We purchase brands from manufacturers such as Jeremias and Bruba from Agentrade in Münchwilen. Torbel Industrie AG supplies our plastic gas flue systems from Skoberne.

Materials & substances

The choice of material determines the durability, safety and suitability of the exhaust system. The most common materials are

Stainless steel

High-quality stainless steel, usually in CrNi design, offers excellent resistance to heat and corrosion. Ideal for high flue gas temperatures, for example in log firing systems. These materials are approved for new builds and renovations in Lucerne and Zug and fulfil the requirements of the VKF.

Plastic (polypropylene, PP)

For systems with low flue gas temperatures, such as condensing boilers. Plastic is corrosion-resistant and easy to process, but requires special fire protection measures.
The LAS system (air/flue gas system) has a double-walled design. The combustion air is drawn in via the outer annular gap, while the inner pipe discharges the flue gases. It is independent of room air. We often use it for oil and gas firing systems.

LAS and PP refurbishment

The differences between the systems

The difference between LAS and PP refurbishment lies in the system structure and the air routing. The LAS system has a double-walled design. The combustion air is drawn in via the outer annular gap, while the inner pipe discharges the flue gases. It is independent of room air and is often used with oil and gas firing systems.

The PP system

The PP system consists of single-walled plastic pipes (polypropylene), which are especially suitable for condensing boilers with low flue gas temperatures. The system works independently of the room air and is acid-resistant, lightweight and easy to install.

Important work steps and installations

In the following, we explain important elements of the exhaust system using 4 specific work steps:
Sealing the flue gas outlet on the roof is a sensitive area. We use suitable roof flashings made of chrome steel or copper, which reliably repel wind, weather and moisture. Correct installation prevents moisture from penetrating and thus preserves the building fabric.
Wall ducts must be airtight and watertight and be able to compensate for thermal expansion. We use flexible sleeves and insulating components that also fulfil the fire protection requirements. In this way, the function of the flue gas system is permanently maintained even in the event of temperature changes.
We close off the roof duct with special bonnets or chimney caps. This ensures protection against precipitation and animals entering the building. Correct fastening ensures stability even in strong winds and prevents condensation from leaking into the building.
To prevent the spread of fire or smoke via the shaft, fire protection bulkheads are installed with non-combustible materials. We use mineral building materials with 30-minute fire resistance (building material class RF1) and professionally install the penetration seals in accordance with VKF guidelines.
